"Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it."

 I Cor. 12:27

Presiding  Bishop Frank Griswold & Bishop Julio C. Holguin

The Diocese of the Dominican Republic is a part of Province 9 of the United States Episcopal (ECUSA).  It has been a part of ECUSA since 1913.  The Diocese receives financial support from ECUSA.

Nearly all Dominican churches receive some financial support from the diocese.  All our churches are missions.  We have no parishes (churches which support themselves).  Therefore, our priests are vicars and the Bishop is rector of every church.  This means the diocese is more involved in the life of its churches, than dioceses in the United States where most of the churches are parishes.

The diocese is responsible for all funds coming into the diocese, though the Bishop delegates much of this responsibility to his vicars.  The diocese and thus the Bishop is held accountable for all financial contributions made to its churches, institutions, and programs.  Therefore, all financial contributions must pass through the diocesan accounting system.  This is required by our auditor.  Once a contribution is calculated in pesos and recorded in the books, the donation is passed on to the desired program.  All financial contributions will be used exactly as directed by the donor.

US citizens who wish to make a tax-deductible contribution should not send their contribution directly to the Dominican Episcopal Church.    There are two-ways to make a tax-deductible contribution to the work in the Dominican Republic: 1)  Donations can be sent to the Dominican Development Group, a U.S. government recognized non-profit organization.  After a donation is recorded in the DDG books, the funds are sent to the Dominican Diocese.  2) Donors can contribute to their local church or diocese and request that the donation be sent to the Dominican Episcopal Church for a specific cause.  Your diocese or church can then send these funds to the Dominican Diocese through Agape, our United States mail courier service.

All contributions of material goods should also be reported to the Diocesan office.  In some cases, churches or individuals may want to assist individuals with health or  other problems.  We encourage groups to send these contributions to the diocese and the diocese working with the local priest will coordinate the distribution of the funds.
