"Here am I; Send me." Isaiah 6:8

Missionaries play an important role in the growth and development of the Diocese of the Dominican Republic.  The opportunities are diverse and the work gratifying.  The Diocese is seeking individuals who are willing to serve for a minimum of one year.

Most missionaries serving in the diocese raise their own financial support.  However, clergy may be eligible to receive a housing allowance and salary equal to other diocesan clergy.  In some instances, the diocese may be able to provide housing to lay missionaries.

If you are interested in serving in the Dominican Republic, here is what you need to do:

  1. Discuss mission service with your pastor, and ask him to pray for you as you  discern your calling.  Ask others to pray for you as well.  (You may want to contact mission-sending organizations for information on mission service or additional assistance. Some links are included on this page.)

  2. If after this discernment process, you believe the Lord is calling you to  the Dominican Republic, contact the diocese by writing the Rev. Bob Snow, assistant to the Bishop, at bobsnow_2000@yahoo.com or by calling (809) 686-7493.  The Diocese will need to know in what manner you would like to serve Christ in the DR.

  3. Prepare a resume of your education and work experiences, including any other information you believe would help the diocese in determining your final placement.  Your resume should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from your pastor.

  4. Develop an annual budget and began contacting churches and individuals about supporting your mission work.  If you are planning to serve as a long-term missionary (3 years or more), it may take a year or more to raise sufficient funding.

  5. After reviewing this information, the diocese will contact you with their placement recommendations.

  6. Keep the diocesan office informed about how your plans are progressing.

Some mission opportunities will not require Spanish, while others will require an ability to converse in Spanish.  However, to interact with Dominicans you will need to know some Spanish.   There are language schools in Latin America whose ministry is to teach prospective missionaries Spanish.
